Namitha has dished out a glamourous entertainer in Azhagana Ponnuthan

Namitha01

Director Thiru (not the one who directed ‘Theeradha Vilaiyattu Pillai’) with Namitha in the company has dished out a glamourous entertainer that would obviously woo his target audience - the youngsters.

The filmmaker seems to have been inspired heavily by ‘Summer of 42′, a 1971 classic directed by Robert Mulligan. But for Namitha, as promised by the promos, ‘Azhagana Ponnuthan’ has nothing big to offer to movie-goers.

In a nutshell, the movie is about a youth who loves a woman older to him one-sided. Though it is a bold theme considering the society that we live, the narration takes away all the sheen. A cliched presentation and predictable characterisation mars the flow of the film.

Namitha is the saving grace as she appears in flaunting costumes, dances and eventually provides loads of advices too. Parthiban appears in the very first reel recollecting his travails with a woman whom he had developed an affinity in his teens.

A flashback takes one to Kodaikanal where Karthik (Karteesh) falls instantly for a gorgeous woman called Jennifer (Namitha), who is older to him. She is admired and respected by everyone, especially men.

It is all but Karthik’s wild imagination is the rest. Karthik sings duets with Jennifer and runs behind her. However in the latter half, he goes into a shell brooding over his love and beloved. Twists and turns reveal that Jennifer’s husband has died in the Indo-Pak war of 1971. What happens then forms the climax.

Namitha has tried to shed her glamdoll image and perform in the movie. But a weak narration by Thiru gives no place for it. The commercial elements gives the movie a different colour, which unfortunately doesn’t work. The young Karteesh reminds one of ‘Kadhal Kondein’ Dhanush at many a place. Parthiban needs to be applauded for taking the guts to do such a role. A couple of songs by Sundar C Babu are hummable.

On the whole, Thiru has provided a bold theme that may work wonders with front-benchers.

Namitha doing a Kiron Kher in her forthcoming film Azhagaana Ponnuthan

hot-nam

The question everyone is asking is, is Namitha doing a Kiron Kher in her forthcoming film Azhagaana Ponnuthan? Going by the storyline, the answer would be a yes. It is yet another film that chronicles the story of a school boy falling in love with a woman much elder to him.

The yet-to-be-released film, however, has always faced problems. It is not because of the selection of a controversial topic, which is so close to High School that it is expected to run into troubles after its release, but because Namitha has always been disappointed with the movie.

First, gossip mills say that she has been angry that it is not directed by Kamraj, but by one Thiru. Second, she did not expect that a new hero was going to play the male lead, instead of an established Tamil actor.

It is understood that the actress is deliberately not participating in the promotional activities of the film.

A tension is brewing between director Thiru and actress Namitha

Azhagan

Here is yet another Kollywood spat. According to sources, tension is brewing between director Thiru and actress Namitha.

The buzz is that Thiru is blaming Namitha for the fiasco of his latest release, Azhagana Ponnuthan, in which Namitha played the lead. “Namitha refused to cooperate with the making of Azhagana Ponnuthan and distanced herself from the film. Also, she steered clear of the promotions unlike her earlier films like Nil Gavani Ennai Kadhali and Indira Vizha,” fumes Thiru.

The director goes on to add that the film’s planned length was two hours and 25 minutes but he could hardly shoot for two hours.“Namitha had earlier complained that she was scared of me and refused to give me dates for the crucial climax. With great difficulty, I somehow managed to shoot the film in 25 days. But a beautiful song and a crucial climax scene where the hero returns and escorts her back could not be shot due to her non-cooperation. We even had to make some changes in the script due to her elusive act.”

Sources claim that the actress was also quite iffy about acting with newcomer Karthik. “She already knew the story before accepting the film and had also completed the photo shoots with the young hero. If she was not happy with the project, she should have backed out in the very beginning.”

Looks like there is a storm in Kollywood!
